Embracing a New Standard of Beauty...(possibly the original standard)

Photobucket

Of course we all know about the constant pictures that have been painted of what true beauty looks like. We all know that for years images of White faces, blond hair, and blue eyes, have been presented as the standard of beauty. In search of true beauty, we then began to look for people that reflected those images or came closest to it.

As a result, Blacks began to think that light skin, straight hair, and light eyes, was closest to the ideal standard of beauty. No matter how much we feel like that does not affect our own personal standards of beauty, it does.

As you look around, of course you see more Black women with straight hair and weaves, and less with braids and locs. And because men do not flock to the more natural women, more women continue to straighten their hair.

But if we all were affected by these misconceptions, why is it that more Black women seem to be able to accept a man in dreads?

Personally I feel like a man in his natural state is sexy. Long locs and a sexy body is number one on my list. :)

I wish that as a race we could see the beauty in everyone. I wish that more people were attracted to both straight hair and dreads, light and dark.

Well, today we are going to shine light on our natural brothers and sisters. The model chics with long hair always get love, and the celebrities that pay for their looks, get even more.

Keeping Up with the Huxtables would like to know your favorite person with natural hair.

Who tops your list of natural beauty?

In the theme of loving our natural features that God gave Black people, what is your favorite Black feature?

(My favorite is right below the waist, it is long, and thick....I am talking about the mans strong muscler legs...dah! What did you think I was talking about? lol)

His legs? Yea right...JK :)

On my list for natural beauty, I would have to say Jill Scott and from ANTM, Ya Ya and Bre. It's a shame I can't name more natural celebrities. Also, I can't forget...ME!!!! As far as the men, I don't know any celebrities, but this guy I know personally who wears locks is sooooooo fine. As a matter of fact, he was the inspiration for a couple of my short stories. Anyways...

My favorite Black feature is the lips. No one on earth has lips like us, and they are beautiful for what the look like and for all that they do.

I think if people want to be natural, then more power to them. But I can understand why some people wouldn't want to--it's tiring! My hair is a mix between Black and Middle Eastern hair which = NO GOOD. And when I have my hair natural there gets a point where I have to straighten it just so I don't have to worry about it. But the initial straightening process is annoying too which is why my hair is natural right now.

I also think Locs look nice. But I recently had to stand closely behind someone with locs, and I'm sorry, but I wasn't pleased. They looked like doo-doos. What's THAT about??

Clearly I had to reread the question because I got to talking about my favorite parts on a black male : ). I guess if we had to say best black feature mos def lips would be on the top of the list. Full lips can compare to no other body part. Personally I am a fan of rich brown complexion. Brown smooth skin, white teeth, muscular arms..... yummy.

I haven't had a perm in over 5 yrs and I absolutely love natural thick hair. I always have that option to wear it curly or to straighten it out.

Basically its so many to choose from when you think of great black features

these pics are some of the choices for me that come to mind....Erykah Badu...Lauryn Hill and India Arie.

I've worn my hair natural for the past few years....and I absolutely love it.

There's a freedom in throwing out the hot curlers, relaxers, etc

Natural is always better honey!! I have to agree with beautifully when she lists Jill Scott, Yaya, and Bre as natural beauties...They are all gorgeous women...I think our true beauty shines even more when we are our true selves...and let natural reign!

As far as black men, the lips are high on my list! It doesn't matter if you have locks or a low cut...More than anything, I love the Black Man's ability to have an exceptional cool swagger even when he is under pressure, under watch, and being underestimated. I think "we" all have that---either taught or innate.

* Vanessa Williams (the Soul Food one... is she still ntural?), and India Arie is just simply gorgeous, short, long or however.

*Lips are definitely it, full lips are the sexiest creation ever!
