Let's Talk About It...Obama is the Joker?

A large banner of Obama as the joker, with the word socialism, was displayed outside of Club Velvet, a gentleman's club in Richmond. This banner has the NAACP outraged and they believe that it is racist, other's disagree. The owner of the club released a statement saying, "Anyone who believes this banner is racist is an ignoramus. And just because he is part black doesn't mean he can't be criticized." Other's say that the sign indicates that the Obama administration is a joke.

No, what this indicates is that the person that put the sign up is an ignoramus. It is totally okay to voice your opinion and criticize the current president, but if you think that it isn't a hint of racism behind that sign, you're crazy. But lets just say it isn't, is Obama really a joke, or is this country as a whole? I think we are hardly headed towards socialism because we want health care options for everyone. I guarantee you that capitalism will remain in the United States, even if everyone is able to go get a regular check up at the doctors. Here are my issues with this country and why it apears as a joke sometimes:

1. You are denying that you can't stand that we have a black president. Who are you fooling...yourselves?

2. You don't want everyone to have health care? You are so selfish, that money for companies is more important than keeping people healthy.

3. You have a president that seems to care about Americans as a whole, and you call him Hitler and the Joker?

4. You bailout the financial insitutions, after it was their greedy acts that possibly caused our economy to be in the state that it is, and the word SOCIALISM isn't thrown out there when the government has to get involved with the rich? Yeah let's provide all of the rich with more money.....and call it socialism when the government wants to get involved with health care.

Now take the banner of my president down and hang some other things up that are more of a joke.

What do you think about the banner? Is it racist? Are we headed towards socialism?

I can't speak for what the owner of the club intended (neither can you or anyone else for that matter) but the origins of that joke have nothing to do with race.

The original joke had the caption "Why so socialist" and was a play on words of the "Why so serious" tagline from the movie. It was a running joke that had other forms, such as these:

Now look at one of the original ones and see if you still think it's racist:

The political crowd didn't quite get the joke and took off on the whole socialist aspect of it, ruining the play on words in the process. That's why it doesn't make as much sense now. But nowhere along the line did it have anything to do with racism.
