Bringing you the morning news....fastest way to Keep UP!

Jack Szostak, Carol Greider and Elizabeth Blackburn share the Nobel Prize in medicine.

It is nothing better than waking up to find out that three Americans are definitely Keeping Up! Americans Elizabeth Blackburn, Carol Greider and Jack Szostak were named winners of the 2009 Nobel Prize in medicine for research that has implications for cancer and aging research, solving a big problem in biology: how chromosomes can be copied in a complete way during cell divisions and how they are protected against degradation." Like everyday there are more upsetting stories than not. Monday, a suicide bomber disguised as a security officer struck the lobby of the U.N. food agency's Pakistan headquarters killing five people after the new leader of the Pakistani Taliban vowed fresh assaults. My heart goes out to the five people, but my heart aches for the hundreds that have lost their lives in Indonesia. Monday, rescue workers called off the search for life under the rubble left by the massive earthquake that recently hit. Instead they will focus on bringing aid to survivors in the towns and hills of western Indonesia.

The Supreme Court begins a new term Monday, and Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic Justice, will join the eight others. Congrats Justice Sonia Sotomayor for Keeping Up and leading the way for Hispanics across the globe. Speaking of minorities, President Barack Obama supposedly will focus on how to overturn the "don't ask, don't tell" ban on gays serving openly in the military, at the right time of course. Last year 634 members of the military were discharged for being gay. If this is overturned, hopefully those discharged would be allowed to return, and this discrimination would stop. Well, looks like the air force might have a new weapon. Boeing has developed a laser weapon, and this futuristic weapon will "save lives by giving war fighters a speed-of-light, ultra-precision engagement capability that will dramatically reduce collateral damage." A Pennsylvania woman was on some futuristic stuff with her pets. Kelly Ann Walz was attacked and killed when she entered her pet bears cage to feed him. She also had a tiger and lion as pets. It is devastating that she was attacked by her own pet, such an awkward story.

France may demand labels on airbrushed photos, because the widespread use of digital technology to alter images in advertisements is feeding the public a steady visual diet of falsified people, places and products. It is forcing people to believe that they have to live up to a certain level of perfection that doesn't really exist. I wonder what would happen if the U.S. took the same actions? It might fix a lot of those wants to be super skinny and look like models. Speaking of perfection, maybe sniffing dogs aren't so great when it comes to helping to identify a suspect for a crime. Former sheriff's deputy in Texas became subject of a murder case due to sniffer dogs, but the dogs were wrong; DNA evidence identified another man. Supporters still say sniffer dogs work. Are these supporters lying to themselves? One report indicates that the U.S. Government might not have told us the entire truth regarding the bailout of the financial institutions. Senior U.S. officials deliberately created the impression last year that banks receiving huge government cash infusions were healthier than was the case. "By stating expressly that the 'healthy' institutions would be able to increase overall lending, Treasury may have created unrealistic expectations about the institutions' condition and their ability to increase lending," the report said. Make sure you read more on that story. Is the government slowly losing credibility? For Obama's sake I hope not....sorry I can't help if I want to see that man Keep Up!
