Name: Krystle Coleman

Age: 24

Industry: Entertainment, Fashion, Sports Public Relations

Location: Miami

College: Florida Memorial University

I am "Keeping Up" because I am: Dangerously In Love aka Taken! A Publicist and Entreprenuer.

What I actually do is: pitch to various media outlets to cover my client’s upcoming projects, events or album releases. I am basically the "liaison" between the media and the celebrity.

I look up to "Kelly Cutrone" and "Susan Blond"in my industry, because they represent/exude everything a strong, focused publicist stands for! Both of these women are professional and "forward. They don’t hold any punches! These two women are "powerful women" that makes things happen!; a true inspiration.

My first job was: To be honest, I didn’t have any jobs until after I graduated from college; my parents took care of me! My father didn’t want me to work, instead he wanted me to direct all my energy and focus to my school work! I had several internships during college; at Island Def Jam, and as a content provider for a magazine called "The Pub Report"! But yeah…no "real danaro" until I graduated from college!

My first job out of college was: A Junior Publicist at Slip n Slide Records in Miami

Biggest Career Move: I would have to say my biggest and most significant career move thus far in my life would be when I decided to launch my own "Boutique PR Firm", Midori Star Media! I launched my own company, because I was at the time "soley " working with Slip n Slide artist such as Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, Trina, and Plies, and people from the fashion & sports world kept approaching me to work there projects and come on board as there publicist. That’s when I decided to be my own "boss" ….so to speak! I didn’t want to limit myself to working with only rappers for the rest of my life; I wanted to brand off to athletes and fashion brands! And thank god everything worked out!

My Best quality is: Creative Writing Skills

My Worst quality is Pitching Independent Artist ( I am working on it )

People might be surprised to know: That I am ultra ultra sensitive. Its no secret that in order to work in the "entertainment business" you have to have, or eventually acquire "tough skin." I have been working in this industry since I was 20, and four years later, I still get offended quick. I also feel sad when I pitch a client and don’t get "immediate results"! I take my career very personal, so I want everything to work in my favor ……lol

Who is the most interesting celebrity you have worked with? To be honest I can’t choose; all my clients are so "Unique" in their own special way! If I had to choose, I would have to say Trina. She is such a wonderful person, so great to the point it makes her "interesting". We have grown so close over the past two years, and I am so grateful to have her as a client!

What is the most challenging part about the PR industry? Everything!!!! The whole PR sector is a big challenging ball of confusion that you have to tackle everyday you wake up!

What is your ultimate goal when it comes to being an entrepreneur? I just want to make my clients happy, and build great relationships with every media outlet in the world! My ultimate goal is to bring that "sparkle power" to a project! And my finesse can speak for itself.

I hate that people think: that working in the "entertainment industry is a 24/7 Party life. I need people to understand a great deal of the individuals in the music industry are very very hard workers, if not the hardest in the world! A lot of work goes into the final product you see.

Blogs/websites I follow YBF,Sandrarose.com, bossip.com, nitrolicious.com, style.com

Magazines I read Nylon, Elle, W, Hip Hop Weekly, Radar. I am a publicist so I am always looking to "flip through all the magazines, but those are some of my favorite magazines that are currently out!

The best thing about what I do: When you have accomplished major media looks for a client, that is an amazing feeling, and when you have the power to introduce/brand a client in the consumer’s eyes! Professionalism is extremely important in any industry; I can’t express this enough. I take my career very serious. I am like a human sponge. I am always on the Internet during my spare time, reading articles on assorted publicist and music industry insiders. I take of every day as a new way to learn a different spin to feed top editors or how I can get my artist more placement that week. I think my "professionalism" comes off so strong, because it comes from the heart. I love my job, and love meeting new media contacts. And everything else that comes with the wonderful world of media relations.

Quote you live by: To whom much is given, much is expected. - Luke 12:48.

What advice do you have for people trying to "Keep Up" in your industry:

1. Read articles and features on other public relations professionals.
2. Practice writing.
3. Always read the master head on every magazine.
4. Get familiar with the editors first and last names.
5. Intern at more than one company.
6. Don’t just be the quiet bland intern, yet don’t be obnoxious and irritating. You have to have a certain type of personality to be an entertainment publicist; you can’t be too nice and can’t be too mean.
7. You have to prove yourself with time, work and more work.
8. Once you have landed your dream position, don’t ever get relaxed. There is always an intern waiting to take your spot.
9. Network and remember you can never start to young. If you are given a big opportunity take it and run.
