Bringing you the morning news...fastest way to Keep Up!
Catholic Bishops and The White House clash on whether abortion should be covered in the new health care bill. Looks like people are clashing in Alaska also. Volunteer "elves" are trying to counter a decision by the U.S. Postal Service to discontinue a program begun in 1954 in the small Alaskan town of North Pole, where they open and respond to thousands of letters addressed to "Santa Claus, North Pole" each year. A program like this should remain open for the sake of the children, helping to maintain their innocence and belief in Santa. This might be a little sad, but not as crazy as this next case. Armed intruders forced their way into a Florida home, and hold a family of three hostage for three days before the mother was able to jump from a second-story window and run for help.
Authorities arrested dozens of angry students at the University of California, Davis, campus late Thursday after they refused to vacate the school's administration building in protest of a 32-percent tuition hike. Looks like these students got in trouble for standing up for what they believed in, and looks like this next man is free from his troubles. A British man who strangled his wife in his sleep while dreaming that she was an intruder walked free from court Friday after the case against him was withdrawn, due to evidence from a psychiatrist. The British man was saved by a sleeping disorder, and the employees if this next company were truly saved by their CEO. Earlier this year Rob Katz, CEO of Vail Resorts, cut his $840,000 a year CEO salary down to $0 for 2009.
The Philadelphia Tribune, the nation's oldest and the Greater Philadelphia region's largest newspaper serving the African-American community, will celebrate its 125th year on Saturday. What an accomplishment for this newspaper and for this next artist. Jay-Z earned his fourth No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart Thursday with "Empire State of Mind," his collaboration with Alicia Keys. Too much is given, much is required. MillerCoors -- the North American marketing arm of Colorado's Molson Coors Brewing Co.-- said Wednesday it has donated $1.3 million to support 47 historically black public colleges and universities. So much good news, but this next story might make a lot of viewers sad. Oprah Winfrey will announce on Friday's "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that she will end her talk show in 2011.
