The French minister in charge of humanitarian relief called on the UN to "clarify" the American role amid claims the military build up was hampering aid efforts. I pray that we are over there being productive. We do sometimes show up in numbers....but then all we do is show up.

Donations to Haiti relief efforts exceed over 200 million. I am glad to see the common American coming together to help another group of people in need.

Adidas has ended its endorsement of Gilbert Arenas. It is so sad to see athletes lose their endorsements over stupid mistakes. It is like we are hungry for success, but throw it up like our stomach can't handle it.

DEFENDING champion Serena Williams blasted her way through to the second round of the Australian Open today. Williams is chasing her fifth Australian crown after winning in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. The Williams sisters are the definition of wanting to be the greatest that ever did it. They are fighting for title after title, and getting them!

Democrat Cheryle Jackson has the backing of black media companies who say it's important that a black senator be elected from Illinois. Jackson is one of five Democrats running for President Barack Obama's old Senate seat in the Feb. 2 primary. Well, let the battle begin. Are black people finally coming together again to fight for what they believe should be going on in this darn country?

The latest casualty report, from the European Commission citing Haitian government figures, doubled previous estimates of the dead to approximately 200,000, with some 70,000 bodies recovered and trucked off to mass graves. Lord knows how many people might be still uncovered. This is indeed one of the greatest tragedies for this generation.

The U.S. may acquire a new nickname this decade: Freelance Nation. Not only are many of the jobs that have been lost unlikely to come back, but those that do are increasingly likely to be freelance, temporary or contract positions rather than permanent jobs with benefits. This isn't great news at all. Freelance means less stability. Everyone needs to be whipping up a business plan right about now. Time to work for ourselves.

When Obama stopped at the headquarters of the American Red Cross' to promote aid to Haiti, a member of the agency's new media team wrote a message on telling people he had arrived."President Obama and the first lady are here visiting our disaster operation center right now," the Red Cross staffer wrote.The new media staffer then asked the president to hit "Update" on the screen and Obama posted the item himself under the @RedCross handle at A moment later the Red Cross staffer posted a follow-up tweet: "President Obama pushed the button on the last tweet. It was his first ever tweet!"
