The fastest way to read the morning news...
Oprah calls it "America's new deadly" obsession, texting, emailing and calling while driving. After illustrating a few tragic accident stories on her show, Oprah urges her viewers to take a pledge to make our car a No Phone Zone. So far over 20,000 people have taken the No Phone Zone pledge: 'I pledge to make my car a No Phone Zone. Beginning right now, I will do my part to help put an end to distracted driving by not texting or using my phone while I am driving. I will ask other drivers I know to do the same. I pledge to make a difference' Well, recent studies do say that the majority of us ages 18 to 49 admit to texting and /or making calls while driving. I can't lie, I've done the same, however due to almost getting into an accident myself, and watching Oprah...I will sign, and take the pledge. Will You? -Lisa B
Floyd Mayweather will take on Shane Mosley in a marquee welterweight matchup on May 1, with both fighters agreeing to "Olympic-style" drug testing . I am not into fights, but I think this is a good match up! lol
R&B star Jill Scott was sued Wednesday by her longtime record label, which is accusing the multi-platinum songstress of skipping out halfway through a six-album contract and potentially owing millions of dollars in damages. I hope this isn't true, but then again record labels are in the business of dicking artist over, so I wouldn't blame Jill if she did.
President Barack Obama's African aunt is going before a Massachusetts immigration judge for a second time to argue she should be allowed to stay in the United States. Onyango moved to the United States in 2000. Her first asylum request was rejected. She was ordered deported in 2004. But she didn't leave the country and continued to live in public housing in Boston. I get immigration laws and all, but come on she is the President's aunt. Every rich white guy gets to pull strings left and right, and he can't? Get it out of here...
A sculpture by Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti broke the world record price for a work of art sold at auction, fetching an astounding $104.3 million today, titled "Walking Man 1". That is amazing to make that amount of money off one piece of art, although I am sure he spent years making it.
The US may have lost 824,000 more jobs than the government said it did between April 2008 and March 2009. According to Bloomberg, which provided the numbers for the possible adjustment, the revision would be posted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics tomorrow, February 5th. That would increase the number of jobs lost due to the recession from 7.2 million to 8 million. Between the media and the government I don't know who is getting the most information wrong. I am convinced that everyone is lying to me. smh
Usher and Alicia Keys will perform at the NBA All-Star Half-Time Show. That should be a great half-time. I think they both are so talented and are always a delight to watch and hear.
President Barack Obama strongly criticized controversial anti-homosexuality legislation being considered by Uganda's legislature during an appearance Thursday at the National Prayer Breakfast, which would punish sexual activity between persons of the same sex with long jail terms or death. I am glad he spoke against this. This world scares me sometimes.
-Keep Up!
