The fastest way to read the morning news...

Mitch Landrieu was elected mayor of New Orleans on Saturday, the first time since 1978 that voters choose a white candidate. Congrats! It isn't often that you hear a first for a white candidate.

The leaders of our historically black colleges and universities seem to be okay with President Barack Obama's fiscal 2011 budget which includes a $30 million funding increase for their financially struggling schools. Great move Obama! I hate to see these schools suffer. Historically we have been strong, and today is no different. HBCU's cannot die off because we have more generations to effect and educate.

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith are facing legal threats due to the fact that the guy that financed "The Human Contract", a movie written and directed by Jade Pinkett, might be suing them because he says that the couple guaranteed a return on the movie, but the movie made no money at all. I hope this legal issue is sorted out soon. I love Will and Jada. This is just another bump in the road. Keep on being the amazing power couple that you are.

The New Orleans Saints take home a 31-17 Superbowl victory, making it the first time they have ever won a Superbowl. I am so glad they won. It was great finally seeing this city smile again since Hurricane Katrina. This game served as much more than just a football victory.

President Barack Obama says it's time for Republicans who have attacked his health care proposals from the sidelines to step before the cameras and present their own ideas. invited GOP and Democratic leaders to discuss possible compromises in a televised gathering later this month. I wish they could come to an agreement already. The longer they take to pass this bill, the more people die from not being able to go get proper treatment at the hospital.

Another major snowstorm will pound the East Coast of the United States from Tuesday through Wednesday of this week. More than a foot of wind-blown snow might accumulate, likely snarling transit. As with the recent storm farther to the south, power outages will be possible. It can't be as bad as the more southern east coast cities got it last Friday!

Dr. Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson's doctor, will likely be charged with involuntary manslaughter for administering an anesthetic to the singer right before he died. I guess MJ's family will finally get justice, or will they?

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she would consider a run for president in 2012 if the situation was right for her family and the nation. Please let it not be a good situation for her family...I know it won't be for the nation.
